Getting Down to Business: Friday, August 24th 2012
We arrived at the Faculty of Public Health in order to meet the Vice-President of International Relations (who unfortunately cancelled on us and we could not meet her), register for classes and take our picture for the Khon Kaen University (KKU) student ID. We also had the chance to meet the different faculties of Public Health who will be lecturing in our courses. First day of school is just around the corner!
This was a lecture of the introduction on Khon Kaen University. Here are some fun statistics about KKU.
--Ranked 57th in Life Sciences and Medicine among Asian Universities
--Ranked 528th among world-class universities
--Has 77 Doctoral Degree programs and 43 International programs (which I am a part of!)

Time for student IDs! Can you tell which are real people and who are mannequins? See if you can spot the difference between the photos (Hint: there are at least 5).
This is the main building where students can register and where you can student picture IDs.
We had a powerpoint presentation on the different professors in the Faculty of Public Health at Khon Kaen University.
Snacks, as always, are provided during meetings (bra-chuums).
This is the Faculty of Public Health, where we will be having our lectures. This is just an introduction and I will post pictures specifically how our classroom looks later on.
If you can see in the left picture, the Faculty of Public Health (and I assume all the other buildings) is actually outside. The classrooms are inside, but the hallways are open to the outside. The buildings don't really have doors or walls; instead, the entrance to classrooms create the walls and the hallways are just an open environment.
The library of the Faculty of Public Health. Only Public Health Students are allowed inside! You know where I will be spending most of the time.
Well, that might not be entirely true because it is pretty far away from our apartments and the CIEE office.
Lunch at the Complex. I had some rice with pork (that is a complete guess, it could have been a complete different type of meat) and green beans with another mystery side.
Welcome to Mister Lee's, where delicious homemade ice cream is made!
Look at all of those varieties, it is driving me (Megan actually) nuts!
I got a scoop of cappuccino ice cream for 60 Baht ($2.07). I am not sure if it was the ice cream itself that was really good, or if it was more of the fact that I miss ice cream so much that anything of the sort would have tasted delicious!
We went on a tour around KKU. Our first stop was the library. It has six floors (I believe) and it even has it's own cafeteria.
In the evening, we came back to the Faculty of Public Health to meet all of the Public Health Students. Of course, what a better way to meet people than by playing games?
The first game that we played involved us walking in large circle and then forming correct groups. Formation of groups relied on two simple rules:
Boys were worth .50 Baht
Girls were worth 1.00 Baht (because girls are definitely more amazing and worthwhile, haha)
Then, the leader of the group said an amount (2.50 Baht, for instance) and people had to come together to form that amount. For the example given, groups could consist of 5 boys, 2 girls and 1 boy and any combination in between. If you were left out of a group, you had to leave the circle because you lost.
That's my roommate (Tok Tak) in the white!! Megan's roommate (Som, which means orange in Thai) is to the left of Tok Tak and Rachel's roommate (Bella) is to the left of Som. Ethan's roomate is the boy at the other end.
The next game was called "Sip Eee", which is basically a cute dancing game that involves rhythm, copying and sequence.
These are just some of the Public Health students. This was during our "Wolf and Villagers" game, where there were three wolves who killed innocent villagers. A really gruesome game.
Yes, I am sad to say that I did take a typical facebook photo. But I just wanted to show the outfits we wear for class!
